Q&A with David - Groundworks Apprentice

Did you know you can register your interest for the next intake of Groundwork Apprenticeships beginning Summer 2018?

David is currently doing an apprenticeship in Groundwork. He started his apprenticeship in November 2017 and has never looked back. The Knight Group apprenticeship has been set up to give you the construction skills required to kick-start a career in the industry. With over 40 years in construction, Knight Group can offer a range of expertise, knowledge and skill to those seeking an exciting career within the industry.

What interested you about doing an apprenticeship?

I really wanted to get stuck into a career. I knew going to college full-time was not for me and when I found out about the Knight Group Apprentice Scheme, I thought that this could be a really good entry for me to get into the construction industry.

What do you enjoy about working in construction?

I like that there is so much you can learn and not just one thing, it keeps it exciting. Everyone is really nice and there is always a good atmosphere on site. I am excited to keep learning how to do more things and also see the finished product. I like that I can look back and say, I contributed to this.

What is your favourite thing you have learnt so far?

I really liked slabbing. Since learning that I have also done the slabbing in my mums garden for her. I have also enjoyed kerbing too and block paving. I have enjoyed quite a lot of things.

What is your goal after your apprenticeship?

To successfully complete my apprentice and become a fully qualified groundworker and work my way up. There are a lot of opportunities in the construction industry and I am excited to see what the future holds for me.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship?

I would definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship. You get well looked after and supported with Knight Group. It is a good option for anyone who doesn’t think the route of college and A-Levels is for them. I think, why wouldn’t you want to earn money and learn at the same time? It has been a great experience for me and I would definitely recommend this to others.
