Meet the Team
Dean is the Managing Director of J L Knight Roadworks Limited, the main operational arm of the Knight Group—specialists in groundworks, RC frames, and civil engineering across North and East London and the Home Counties.
Starting as a Site Engineer, Dean joined the business in 1998 with a degree in Construction. His strong technical and leadership skills saw him promoted to Construction Director in 2004 and later lead a successful Management Buyout in 2015.
Since then, Dean has driven the company’s evolution—introducing new systems, rebranding, and ensuring the business stays aligned with modern industry demands.
Guy joined the business in 2013, bringing extensive experience from national main contractors and leading subcontractors in remediation, groundworks, and RC frames. His industry knowledge, developed since his first apprenticeship in the early '90s, quickly marked him as a future leader. In 2015, he became part of the Management Buyout Team.
Now Operations Director, Guy has transitioned from his commercial role to support wider business functions and help develop future leaders. He has played a key role in building a strong commercial team, driving growth, and maintaining lasting client relationships.
Gary joined the business in 1996 and has been instrumental in its growth from a small groundworks company to a business now turning over £60 million annually.
As Finance Director, Gary oversees the company’s finances, ensuring systems and personnel stay aligned with evolving regulations and industry standards. He played a key role in the 2015 Management Buyout, helping structure a smooth financial transition.
Richard began his career with the business in 1999 as a Trainee Estimator/Surveyor. Ambitious from the start, he quickly progressed to lead the Estimating Department before gaining further industry experience elsewhere. He returned in 2010 and became a Board Director in 2013.
Richard has been instrumental in advancing the company’s use of technology and ensuring the estimating team operates with cutting-edge tools. A key member of the 2015 Management Buyout Team, he is known for his early client engagement and valuable cost advice, helping to shape successful projects from the outset.
Alex joined the business in 2006 as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor and has exemplified our commitment to growth through training and development. Supported through his construction qualifications, Alex has excelled in every role, earning his appointment as Commercial Director in 2024.
Known for his deep understanding of the business and drive for continuous improvement, Alex leads a strong commercial team and has built lasting client relationships. He plays a key role in evolving our systems and controls to meet the ever-changing demands of the industry.
Dan joined the business in 1998 as a Trainee Site Engineer, following in his father’s footsteps and earning his construction qualifications while developing on-site. He progressed to Contracts Manager and was appointed Construction Director in 2016.
Dan has overseen the construction arm through major growth, ensuring high standards and a strong focus on health and safety. His deep operational knowledge helps drive consistency and continuous improvement across all projects.
Together with Stuart, Dan leads a skilled construction team and maintains key client relationships.
Stuart joined the business in 2013, bringing extensive experience from leading contractors in remediation, groundworks, and RC frames. He has been key in implementing new systems and managing complex RC frame projects, constantly refining processes to meet industry demands.
Appointed Construction Director in 2024, Stuart now works alongside Dan to lead the growing construction arm of the business, ensuring safe practices, timely delivery, and high-quality standards.
